AboutSMILE Believes Library service is essential to the quality of life in Minnesota. Every resident in the nine county area is entitled to the same quality library service which is improved through cooperation by all types of libraries. Sharing of resources includes delivery to the end user in the fastest most efficient manner. On-going educational opportunities provide the staff development necessary for continued quality service to regional library users. Communication makes the difference that allows cooperation and participation by SMILE members. Communicating the information about services and use as well as needs for financial support to the state and federal government is crucial. Providing information about library services and regional needs to the area legislators is a way to build support for library funding and services. All types of libraries working together can reduce costs, obtain economies of scale and provide better service to the region. We believe that working toward a simplified structure that provides library service to all libraries in the south central region provides both cost savings and improved services for all citizens.
